The book begins its journey with an exploration of Arran which circles the island and probes its mountainous hinterland. The most important of Arran's ancient sites such as the Machrie Moor stone circles are featured along with more recent landmarks. Great Cumbrae is visited next before reaching the mainland at Largs in North Ayrshire. An illustrated tour of North, East and South Ayrshire follows, in which Robert Burns' country is investigated, with the village of Alloway centre-stage. The beautiful hill country around Loch Doon is also featured. This new collection contains over 80 pictures, the great majority of which are published here for the first time. |
