The Glenfinnan Monument stands centinal on the northern shore of Loch Shiel. It was erected in memory of Bonnie Prince Charlie who came ashore here in August 1745 to begin what was the last Jacobite Rising, coming to a bitter and bloody end at the Battle of Culloden on 16th April 1746.
